CES Fallout: No decent plan from Microsoft to answer growing tablet threat

Paul Thurrott has a starkly depressing article that echoes our concerns about Microsoft's response to the growing popularity of tablet computing. Tablet computing is currently dominated by the Apple iPad but there are many Google Android devices on the horizon.

Microsoft is porting Windows 7 to run on ARM architecture devices and is banking on this being enough to deliver a great tablet platform. That's unfortunate as history has shown this strategy has failed over recent years with Windows on Intel-based tablet notebook machines. If the iPad has shown us anything, it's that the OS needs to be designed and optimised for touch from the ground-up.
