This is part of the argument of course, but increasingly the end-to-end supply chain, skills, and capability is more important.

Among them:

5.5 percent of Web usage [is] conducted on smartphones and tablets.

Internet Explorer 6 and 7, which aren't current on any supported version of Windows, are still the version used by 25.4 percent of Internet Explorer users, 13.38 percent of desktop users as a total.

Firefox retains its clean split between people on the new, rapid release versions (4-9) and those on the old stable version (3.6). The rapid release users are upgrading fairly quickly, though the cut-overs are neither as rapid nor as automated as those of Chrome. However, almost a quarter of Firefox users are sticking with version 3.6. Until and unless Mozilla produces a stable edition with long-term support, this is unlikely to change.

Is Siri the user interface breakthrough that multi-touch was? Perhaps. The key difference appears to be use of natural language when interacting with Siri. No longer do you need to think 'how do I need to say this so the computer can understand me'. Check out this video from Bloomberg for some interesting insights.

"As always there are those who reveal their asininity (as they did throughout his career) with ascriptions like “salesman”, “showman” or the giveaway blunder “triumph of style over substance”. The use of that last phrase, “style over substance” has always been, as Oscar Wilde observed, a marvellous and instant indicator of a fool. For those who perceive a separation between the two have either not lived, thought, read or experienced the world with any degree of insight, imagination or connective intelligence. It may have been Leclerc Buffon who first said “le style c’est l’homme — the style is the man” but it is an observation that anyone with sense had understood centuries before. Only dullards crippled into cretinism by a fear of being thought pretentious could be so dumb as to believe that there is a distinction between design and use, between form and function, between style and substance."

Absolutely spot on. Go to the blog.

Sandfield What's Going On

What's Going On
